IRCC Decreases Immigration Inventories and Backlogs

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has updated its data on immigration inventories and backlogs.

Information on this page is up to date as of May 31, 2024.

The latest figures show 2,220,000 applications in all IRCC inventories.

  • 1,341,600 within service standards while
  • 878,400 in backlog which have exceeded service standards.

IRCC is taking action to reduce the backlogs of applications within the inventories. They are aiming to process 80% of applications within the service standards. However, some complex cases may need a more detailed assessment. Presently, 43.7% of temporary residence applications (such as those for visiting, studying, or working) and 40.3% of permanent residency applications are backlogged. Additionally, 17.1% of citizenship applications exceed the service standards.

Projections are estimates based on current operating conditions and may change. They don’t account for sharp increases in received applications, urgent shifts in priorities, or other unforeseen circumstances affecting IRCC operations.
